Alison is a writer and editor who proudly considers herself an “organized creative.” She began her media career as an editorial intern at Men’s Health magazine in Emmaus, PA, then learned about the business side of magazines as part of the advertising production department at Forbes in New York, NY.

Deciding that editorial was more professionally gratifying than ad sales, she headed to the midwest to study journalism and magazine publishing at Northwestern University, graduating in 2007. Born and raised in New Jersey, she moved to Brooklyn in 2009, and held editorial positions at Rodale’s Best Life magazine, in Time Inc’s custom publishing department, and at Meredith Corporation. She gained experience in digital media production as a producer at UrbanDaddy, worked briefly in nonprofit communications at the NRDC, and helped writers and editors meet deadlines as the deputy managing editor at Billboard.

Though she enjoyed wrangling fellow creatives as a managing editor, she made a career pivot in 2015 to focus on writing and editing. Early clients include Time Out New York, Exuberance, New York Spaces, and ALLPRO Independent. More recently, she wrote feature-length stories for NationSwell and client sponsored content for Grist and Business Insider; she has also written for Livestrong, Reebok, Merriam Webster’s The Usage, The Balance, NY Metro Parents, Twill, Eagle Creek, and Reviewed.

After moonlighting as a dog walker and runner pre-pandemic, she rediscovered yoga and became proud cat mom to Benedict and Anthony, a bonded pair of kittens. She enjoys cooking, working out, and gardening, and is always up for music or a good film.
